There is now unprecedented competition for life science jobs, driven by increasing numbers of students graduating with life science degrees (4.8% year-on-year), coupled with an uptick in biotechnology and pharmaceutical layoffs (57% increase for 2023 vs. 2022). To make matters worse, job growth has slowed markedly (Down 85% for July 2023 vs. 2021 and flat since that time).
